Oliver Peoples, Los Angeles, CA, USA
The Oliver Peoples brand of eyewear was inspired in the late eighties by a collection of vintage eyewear that was picked up at an estate sale by brothers Larry and Dennis Leight. These two opticians were fascinated with the mint eyeglasses and sunglasses collection, and realized that the vintage American made designs were a unique opportunity to turn the trends of geometric and space-age sunglasses styles that were dominating the 1980’s.
The beautiful filigreed rimless and metal frames and the metal clip-on sunglasses gave creative designer Larry Leight a host of ideas for a new line of authentic eyewear. The brand name was derived from the name on a receipt found in that original eyewear collection purchased from an estate sale.
Now the Oliver Peoples brand has become one of the most desirable makers of high fashion eyeglasses and sunglasses in the industry. Their unique styles have inspired other designers to break away from the norm in eyewear design and to create innovative and wildly popular sunglasses and prescription eyeglasses.
